2025 Audit Report

Updated: Feb 9

The majority of the work session on January 26 was spent reviewing the district’s annual financial audit. We had a significant finding that involved the double payment of a curriculum subscription for more than $500K due to a combination of human and software error. There seems to be an attitude that it’s the auditor’s job to find errors instead of being proactive with our procedures. Dan’s experience as a CPA is invaluable to understanding the impact of these findings.

Based on reports from 2019 to present, the district has had 14 findings in 7 years. Although our current finance director didn't come on board until late 2020, the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations have been in their roles since 2017. This implies an issue with the environment in the business office and administration.

Financial issues directly impact the effectiveness of our district. Large overpayments mean less money for our teachers and classrooms. Taxpayers deserve transparency and accountability for our hard-earned money. Whether the money comes from Federal, state, or local sources, it all comes from taxpayers.
